4th of July 2009

Our Fourth this year was really nice. We drove up to MiGi’s house after work on Thursday evening. Both girls were very well behaved the entire ride and we hit suprisingly little traffic.
Friday morning we drove over to the Oroscos and played in their pool most of the day and had a cook out. The girls had a blast McKenna played with Sofia and and Maya even interacted with the twins. Carrie and I actually had some adult conversations with Kim and Roman.
Later in the day we went back to Migi’s and the girls took their naps. They were late naps but it worked out perfectly as that evening we went to see the fireworks at a nearby park. The Cook’s joined us for the show and McKenna played with Cameron the entire time. They were like two peas in a pod. It was really a nice place to see fireworks and it had a nice small-town feel. It was the first time both McKenna and Maya had seen fireworks. McKenna loved them and was suprisingly calm. I say surprisingly as she ate about 4 or 5 different desserts while waiting for the show to start. Maya was a little more timid and clung to me for most of the show… but seemed to enjoy it. The girls were up very late…. I think it was around 11pm before they put their heads on the pillow. Maya kept us up every night we were at Migi’s. We shared the room with her and could not escape her cries.
The day after the fireworks we went to Migi’s town parade. Its not a big deal or anything but they pass out candy and McKenna had even more sugar. Later we swam in Migi’s community center pool and followed that up with a visit to the Cooks for dinner. The drive home today was just as easy as the ride up.
We went to our pool and they girls went to sleep tonight without a peep. McKenna is making huge strides in the pool and can hold her breath underwater. She is obsessed with becoming a better swimmer and loves the water. She did so much swimming tonight that she looked physically worn down by the time we came home.

Sounds like a very nice 4th of July weekend for all. Wish we could have been there.
It really sounds like McKenna is a very, very determined little girl. She is sooo pretty in her dancing outfit !!!

Really miss them. Need another weekend. Will plan.
