Two nights in a row it was up to Daddy to feed, bathe and get the girls to bed. It is exhausting after a really busy work day but we still managed to have fun. McKenna dressed up as a princess with sunglasses and we took the carriage to the ball and then we danced. Maya tagged along with a necklace on.
Maya is really parroting everything we say right now.
For dinner we had left over Macaroni and Cheese from the freezer. We took out a modest amount knowing it was just myself and the two girls. It turned out to be too modest. The girls left me with a few noodles and I had to turn savaging for food in the fridge. They were like two little eating machines… in fact when we were completely out of Mac n Cheese McKenna was still hungry. I tried to satiate her with grapes but gave her a slice of ham in addition.
Maya just ate what ever I put on her tray. It felt like if I had stayed there all night she would have kept eating.
Bath time was typical but while I was dressing McKenna she stopped and noticed her pull ups. They were decorated with three princesses. She asked,”What are they saying?”. I was at a loss so I replied, ” I think they are just looking at you?” McKenna,”They are saying, ‘we will keep your toots from getting out’ right daddy?”.
Tonight when I got home Carrie and the girls were at the Children’s museum downtown. I had just missed Carrie’s text message or I would have joined them.
When they got home the first thing McKenna asked me for was some juice. It was almost dinner time so I was about to say that she could have milk or water but Carrie beat me to it. I was holding McKenna in my arms at the time and she grabbed my face in her hands, pulled her face close and looked me in the eye and said, ” Daddy… I want some juice”…. as you can imagine I lost it and started laughing. The game continued as I was on the floor with Maya shortly afterwords and the mini struggle continued. She grabbed my face again and was looking at me like she was trying to hypnotize me in to getting her way.
Carrie had gotten ready to go to the gym and we were standing in the foyer and McKenna was trying to open the front door. We looked at her and said,” Where are you going?” Her reply was… “I am getting the door for you Mommy so that when you leave I can ask Daddy to give me juice”.
Yes it was very funny and No she didn’t get her juice.
It is always hard to come home after a hard day at work and not be grumpy. On my car ride home I try and unwind enough so that I am a good dad by the time I get home. The funny thing is that the minute I walk in the door the girls bring so much light and happiness my way that I forget all about the terrible time I had at work. They absorb me into their world and their lives. Their two smiles and personalities are the best cure. In all honesty you just can’t be grumpy around them… its impossible. Here is what I came home to today:
On Saturday we went to the home and garden show. McKenna and Maya were enthralled by an outdoor bar’s music. Here is the video:
We had a nice weekend and we spent a lot of quality time with the girls. Yesterday McKenna helped me with the yard work and got a ride in the wheelbarrow and she loved it. She also pointed out all of Jaxson’s poo in the back yard so that I could pick it up. In the bubble bath on Saturday night McKenna said to me, ” Put bubbles on my back and wash them off please.”
Maya has learned the effective use of the word No and is in general, really trying to say new words. She does just fine communicating otherwise. She is also quite active and in to everything right now. Cabinets are not safe… in fact nothing with in arms reach right now is very safe. She literally runs around the house and is rarely in one room for very long. She has been doing these grunting sounds like she is lifting something heavy all the time here is some footage of that:
Today was Mommy’s day off with the girls. They went to check out a few pre-schools. Nothing worth going back to.
The days are hard for Carrie but I know she will miss these days once the girls are in school full time.
At dinner tonight Maya ate a ton of vegetables.. actually both girls continued their recent trend of eating well.
I am noticing a bond forming between the two girls. It is really nice to witness.
Maya was up all night coughing. Carrie went in this AM to give her some water and that helped.
Carrie was weezing herself. It is this Cedar pollen we have here in Austin. It is just poisonous.
McKenna calls Carrie “wicked stepmother”. I guess I shouldn’t complain.
I am glad the week is over. This weekend should be more mellow than the last several we have had.
