We had a nice Thanksgiving just us and Kevin. In the morning Carrie and I ran a 5 mile run called the Turkey Trot while Kevin watched the girls.
We got home around 11 and started cooking and we were eating by 6pm. Everything was good. We wore our customary Thanksgiving wear. (Pictures below) I predict that we will need to have two turkey head gear in a few years.
Today is the last work day for the week and Carrie and I are grateful to be able to spend time with the girls for 4 days straight. Thanksgiving should be fun for McKenna. We plan on wearing our pilgrim and turkey hats which I think she will love.
The best thing about normal work days is seeing the family after work. I get such a pleasant greeting everyday from everybody… each in their own way. Jaxson is of course usually the first to me with either a hand lick or an attempt to jump up an lick my face. McKenna follows shortly after. Her greeting is usually running at me with her arms open calling me my name of the day (Bob Schneider et al). Maya then waddles over to me with her arms open demanding I pick her up. When I do she usually gives me extended hugs that last for minutes followed by her fingers in my mouth. Carrie is usually getting dinner ready or busy with something and I typically seek her out for a kiss. How does one not rush home every night to see their family? I don’t understand people at work that I know that intentionally work late so they don’t have to go home. Why?
We have a small Thanksgiving planned tomorrow. Carrie and I are running in the Turkey Trot in the morning while Uncle Kevin watches the girls. Then it is just going to be the family with Kevin joining us for the rest of the day.
Yesterday was Carrie’s day with the girls. They went shopping and McKenna had her yearly check up. McKenna was 33 Inches Tall and 32lbs. Both of which are in the 50th percentile for what ever that is worth. The doctor said she was very social and healthy. She also said that most 3 year old kids just stare at her.
At some point during the day before nap Carrie had to do dishes and McKenna ‘helped’ her. A wooden spoon and sponge went missing with out Carrie noticing. During McKenna’s nap/quiet time Carrie heard a hammering noise coming from McKenna’s room. When she arrived she found McKenna had confiscated a wooden spoon and was hammering on the wall behind her bed. Her teddy was up on her head board and she had Thomas the train stickers on her face:
McKenna Sticker Face
Carrie took back the spoon and told her to lay down and be quiet. McKenna looked at her and said, “Fine but you are NOT taking the bear”. .. We still haven’t found the missing sponge.
When I got home last night Maya was doing the following all over the house:
We had big plans. Our goal was to go to the Mall for a few items, drive up to The Domain (a large outdoor shopping plaza), have some dinner and then watch a Christmas Tree lighting. We arrived at the Mall to find it was a madhouse… we could barely find a place to park. Inside the mall was even worse and we cut our visit short due to the crowd. So we hightailed it out of there and up to the Domain.
At the Domain we were greeted by even larger crowds and it took us a half an hour to park. Once we were inside we realize wd we had made a mistake. There was no entertainment and no place to eat. We waited for about a half hour and the girls had decided it was enough. McKenna was running around me in circles and bumping in to people and Maya was voicing her displeasure pretty loudly. We left before the tree was lit to find a place to eat.
We ended up at Mexican place called Manuels. Out evening didn’t get any easier because the hostess brought us two boosters and we ended up needing to switch tables so that we could fit a highchair.
Maya had lost a shoe while we were at the Mall… it was a really nice brown one that matched everything. So we had her in only socks. During dinner she picked up her foot and pulled off her sock at some point and decided it would make a great napkin. She started wiping her face and when Carrie looked at her she pretended to blow her nose with it. Many laughs ensued.
We followed up dinner with a trip to Amy’s Ice Cream. The girls had an absolute blast. We didn’t get them back home until about 8:30 and asleep until 9. The evening wore us out so much that we were in bed and asleep an hour later ourselves.
I arrived home around 3:15 yesterday. When I walked in the door both girls were already up. McKenna had no nap and was very hyper. So I decided to take them on a long walk. I put Maya in the backpack and made McKenna walk through the woods with me to the other playground. She had a good time. When we arrived at the playground the weather abruptly got colder so we needed to leave. McKenna walked most of the way back… but reached her breaking point at the end of our street and I had to carry her the rest of the way home…. keep in mind that Maya was on my back the whole time. The rest of the evening went relativly smoothly and the girls went to bed without much fuss. Carrie arrived home in time to read Mckenna the rest of her stories.
